Ten Interview Questions for the Next Big Thing:

What is your working title of your book?

My current release is titled Steam.

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I’ve always been a classic black and white horror movie lover.  This story has been rattling around in my head for three years now.

What genre does your book fall under?

That is a fantastic question and one I’ve had some trouble answering! I would say Steampunk/Science Fiction but a love story at its core.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

I had to take a small people poll!  In my head Viktor was Matthew Grey Gubler, literally the moment I began writing him. Vincent reminded my sister of Nick Zano.  As for Charlie I imagined her very close in physical appearance to Emilie de Ravin.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Steam is a love story about one girl mending her broken heart.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

    Self

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Steam is a short story.  It took about 5-6 hours.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I have absolutely no idea. Science Fiction is a completely new realm for me.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Anyone who has ever felt as awkward as I have inspired this story, and there are lots of us.  I wanted to portray a character that was more vulnerable than any other MC I’ve written.  Charlie (MC) has a steam powered, mechanical heart.  She has had it since she was a child and she has always resented it.  Charlie feels  like a stranger in her own skin and having to monitor her emotions because of her mechanized heart is a constant reminder.  It made her feel less than human and I think a lot of regular people feel “left out” of life like that.  Many people think different=bad, which is rarely true.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

(I think) that everyone likes a love story, but even more so, everyone likes a relatable character.  I believe that many people will see their own fears in Charlie.  In Steam, Charlie is wary of a happy ending, she’s scared to trust it and so part of her runs and hides.
